Long Eared Bat Cups
Brown Long-Eared Bats are one of 9 bat species living in Ireland and it inspires this tableware design, a part of the Irish Nocturnal Animals' range. This fascinating tiny creature is a 'midget spices' in the bat world as its body measures only up to 5 cm in length, with almost half of it accounting for its ears! Bats rely on roost in ruined buildings as well as in the attics of occupied dwellings and all the spices are protected; so whether you like it or not you may one day become a host to the family of bats under your own roof.
The cups are made of white porcelain clay and intricately decorated with black and coloured slips for striking contrast. In addition to the visually busy design, layers of decoration can be felt under your fingers, which adds to the tactile experience when using these pieces.
Each cup is fitted with a large, comfortable handle- liked and praised by many customers.
The decoration is applied by hand by layering colours and revealing design elements with paper resist stencils. While all design elements are there, each piece has a slightly different layout. The cups are decorated on the outside only, the inside of the cups is left plain white.
Please, note that some cups may be slightly off-shape.
