Using a very resilient clay, we will be working with slab-building techniques to create and decorate a very special oven dish. This three-hour course suits both beginners and intermediate level students. It is a great way to experience the pleasures of working with clay, spend time relaxing and focusing on one very much 'hands-on' task. After the piece is glazed and fired, enjoy baking something sweet or roasting a meal in the oven dish you created!
Throughout the class we will present you with methods of working with clay, explain what to look out for and what to avoid; we will also provide design guidance and support, keeping a watchful eye on the progress of your work. We will be there for you, but at the same time, we'll give you freedom to create and express yourself.
Once finished, these dishes will be ovenproof as well as dishwasher- and microwave-safe. The glaze creates a lovely crackle effect on this clay, which means it may become a bit stained over time. We will provide you with tips to keep your oven dish clean and in the best shape for many years of baking and cooking use.
