About

karoArt was established in Dublin in 2011 by Karo.

Initially making pots was a compulsive passion project that with consistency and hard work has turned into a career.

Karo’s mission is to make ‘little pieces of art’ – highly creative, yes, but functional and therefore justifying their existence. They don't break the bank and they are an absolute treat to own and use and make everyday brighter.

In terms of style, Karo uses clay as canvases to illustrate stories for others to read.

First she makes basic hand-built and slip-cast forms and then throws herself into decorating process afterwards, with techniques she developed and enriched over the years of practice.

Colour is a vital part of her work; she uses slips and underglazes for vibrant and consistent finishes. Texture is next in line for Karo so she makes clay stamps and rollers to add relief details and tactile quality to her work.

The illustrations are full of fun, sensitivity, and whimsy. They tell stories in simple and understated ways.

The finished pieces are very special, slightly wonky and definitely unique, produced in small batches before moving on to new ideas and designs.
